Bermuda Is Love Revives #NoNewClothes

September 7, 2026 | 0 Comments

Bermuda Is Love is bringing back its #NoNewClothes campaign this September, “challenging people across our island to rethink fast fashion, disposable clothing and the culture of constant consumption.”

A spokesperson said, “”Originally launched in September 2022, the campaign challenged the public to go one month without purchasing new clothing. Four years later, #NoNewClothes Part Two is returning with the same simple challenge: don’t buy new clothes for the month of September.

“Instead, Bermuda Is Love is encouraging participants to make the most of what they already have by wearing existing clothes, shopping second-hand, swapping or borrowing clothing, repairing and upcycling old pieces, and getting creative with their wardrobes.

“Four years ago, we asked Bermuda to try something simple: go one month without buying new clothes. We’re bringing #NoNewClothes back because the culture of fast fashion and disposable clothing has only continued to grow.

“#NoNewClothes isn’t about saying we can’t enjoy fashion. It’s about questioning whether we always need something new. We want people to get creative, rediscover what they already own and think about the human and environmental costs behind what we buy.

“Fast fashion has significant environmental and social consequences, contributing to excessive waste, resource consumption and carbon emissions, while garment workers around the world can face poor working conditions and inadequate wages.

“The campaign encourages people to consider the full life cycle of their clothing and the consequences of a system built around producing, purchasing and discarding clothes at an increasingly rapid pace.

“#NoNewClothes offers a different approach: buy less, use what you have, and find creative ways to extend the life of your clothes.

“Throughout September, Bermuda Is Love will host events, share educational information and practical challenges, and provide opportunities for the community to participate in the campaign.
