Archbishop Wright Enjoying Visit To Bermuda
Archbishop Philip Wright has travelled to Bermuda to celebrate the 400th anniversary of St Mary’s Church.
The Most Rev Wright, who is the Bishop of Belize, was elected Archbishop and primate of the Church of the Province of the West Indies last year.
He arrived on the island with his wife, Mrs Carla Suite Wright, on Tuesday [September 29], visited Purvis Primary yesterday and will attend the rededication service at the Warwick Church on Sunday.
“I’ve visited just about every parish and Anglican church on the island since I arrived,” the Archbishop told Bernews.
“I’ve also met with Premier David Burt and Governor Andrew Murdoch – it’s been an active visit so far.
“I’ve also visited Purvis Primary, which was very close to my heart because of their emphasis on the teaching of Spanish.
“I come from Belize, which is an English-speaking country in the heart of Latin America.”
Looking ahead to the celebrations, the Archbishop said: “It’s not just about remembering the past, it’s about looking forward to the future. It’s a pleasure and an honour to be here. I’m looking forward to the grand celebrations.
“It’s my first time here and, rest assured, my wife and I will be back to enjoy this beautiful island.”
The Rev Carl Williams, priest-in-charge at St Mary’s, said: “We’re so blessed to have your Grace, the Archbishop, here for our 400th anniversary celebrations. We will give a blessing to the commemorative plaque as we give thanks for 400 years of such faithful service.
“The celebrations are about honouring the past, celebrating the present and glorifying the future.”
