Bermudian golfer Oliver Betschart finished 12th in his collegiate debut for Colorado State University at the Les Fowler Colorado Invitational.

A spokesperson said, “Oliver Betschart made an impressive collegiate golf debut for Colorado State University on September 28 and 29, finishing 12th in a field of 45 players at the Les Fowler Colorado Invitational at Bear Creek Golf Club in Denver, Colorado.

“The 18-year-old Bermudian freshman completed the 54-hole tournament on the 7,340-yard course with rounds of 73, 73 and 76, finishing at six over par in his first appearance as an NCAA Division I golfer for the Colorado State Rams.

“Betschart opened the tournament with back-to-back rounds of 73, showing consistency and composure in his first taste of collegiate competition.

“His final round proved more difficult in the early stages, but the Bermudian responded with an outstanding finish. After struggling at the beginning of the round, Betschart played his final five holes with four birdies and one par, a remarkable closing stretch that allowed him to finish the tournament strongly.

“His 12th-place finish among 45 competitors was an encouraging start to his collegiate career and demonstrated that he is already capable of competing effectively at the NCAA Division I level.

“The Les Fowler Colorado Invitational marked another important step in Betschart’s development after several years competing in elite junior and amateur events in Bermuda and internationally.

“Betschart joined Colorado State this year after signing with the university’s men’s golf programme and is now competing under head coach Jack Kennedy.

“For the young Bermudian, the tournament represented more than just a first college start. It was an opportunity to represent Colorado State in competition for the first time and gain valuable experience against a strong field of collegiate golfers.

“His closing five-hole stretch was particularly encouraging, highlighting the resilience and determination that have become important parts of his game.

“Betschart has represented Bermuda extensively throughout his junior and amateur career and has competed in a number of prestigious international events. His move to Colorado State represents the next stage of that progression as he continues to develop his game while competing against some of the best college golfers in the United States.

“With a 12th-place finish and a six-over-par total now secured in his collegiate debut, Betschart will look to build on the experience as his freshman season with Colorado State continues.”
