Over 40 People Attend Career Launch Event
More than 40 people attended Career Launch Bermuda: Upskill Drive on Wednesday, 30 September, at Bermuda College, where they connected with employers, explored apprenticeship opportunities and registered for selected Bermuda College courses sponsored by the Department of Workforce Development.
A spokesperson said, “Hosted by the Department of Workforce Development [DWD] in partnership with Bermuda College’s APACE division, the event brought together 11 employers, Bermuda College representatives and DWD staff to provide information on career pathways, training and employment opportunities.
“The event gave Bermuda College students enrolled in trades programmes an opportunity to discuss apprenticeship opportunities with employers. Employers in attendance included the Bermuda Government’s Parks Department, D&J Construction and Batson Swan.
“Representatives from Bermuda College’s APACE division were also on hand to help attendees register for selected courses in Allied Health, Hospitality, Information Technology and Artificial Intelligence, providing opportunities to develop skills in healthcare, hospitality and emerging technologies. The courses support Bermudians preparing to enter the workforce, considering a career change, seeking professional development or looking to strengthen their existing skills.
“Several attendees registered for courses, with the Department of Workforce Development sponsoring the cost for eligible participants.”
Minister of Economy and Labour Jason Hayward stated, “The purpose of Career Launch Bermuda was to bring opportunities directly to Bermudians. By connecting people with employers, apprenticeship opportunities and training programmes, we are helping individuals take practical steps towards their career goals.”
“Government’s sponsorship of selected Bermuda College courses is an investment in people and in the skills Bermuda’s economy needs. Whether someone is entering the workforce, changing careers or looking to strengthen their existing skills, we want Bermudians to have access to the training and support they need to succeed.”
President of Bermuda College, Dr. David Sam, said, “The opening of the Department of Workforce Development on the Bermuda College campus represents an important step in strengthening our approach to preparing residents for the future of work. By bringing education, training and workforce services together, we have an opportunity to create more coordinated pathways for students entering the workforce, adults seeking to upskill or change careers, and employers looking for qualified talent.
“This partnership also reflects the direction of Bermuda College’s Strategic Plan, which calls for stronger industry collaboration, expanded access to education and training, and programmes that respond to Bermuda’s changing workforce needs. Our goal is to move beyond simply sharing a campus to creating meaningful opportunities for residents and supporting the long-term development of Bermuda.”
The spokesperson said, “DWD staff were also available throughout the event to provide information on apprenticeships, bursaries, work readiness and other workforce development services. For more information on DWD’s apprenticeships, bursaries, work readiness programmes, and services, or registering for an APACE course, visit www.dwd.bm or call 297-7714.”
