American Austin Smotherman and Ireland’s Seamus Power share the lead after the third round of the Butterfield Bermuda Championship at Port Royal Golf Course today [October 24].

Both players are 16 under par, two shots clear of the chasing pack heading into the final round.

Smotherman carded a five-under-par 66, while Power shot a four-under 67.

Smotherman said the forecast for the final round has been a talking point all week, but he is pleased to find himself in contention.

“I know. It’s just been the talk, the talk of everybody all week, what Sunday’s forecast has been,” Smotherman said.

“I don’t think it’s gotten any better. You know, take care of step one, making the cut.

“Go get into contention on Saturday and see what happens.

“But here we are actually doing that. That was the goal start of the week.

“Now we get to rest a little bit tonight and whatever tomorrow brings, we’ll be ready.

“But staying in the present was not necessarily easy because it’s Saturday feeling like a Sunday’s an odd feeling as well.”

Power is relishing the challenge of potentially difficult conditions in the final round, believing the forecast wind could make the tournament harder to win.

“I’m hoping it doesn’t get too, too bad where we can’t play, but if it does blow, I feel like the officials know it’s coming so they’ve been slowing down the greens,” Power said.

“I saw some of the pins for tomorrow so I think it will be playable.

“It’s just a challenge. It’s one of those things that I prefer when courses play harder like that especially when you’re up around the lead because you feel like it’s a little bit more in your control and there’s not going to be someone to come out early shoot some very low number and chase everyone down.

“It’s one of those days I think it’s going to be tough, and I’ve played this course in some wind before and been able to manage so I kind of have that to lean on a little bit.

“So, I think I’m just looking forward to the challenge of the whole situation.”

Canada’s Corey Conners, Taylor Moore and Ben Silverman are among the chasing pack at 14 under, two shots off the lead.

The event organizers also released the flyer below to provide an update about tomorrow.
