Bermudian golfer Eric West is targeting more international competition after winning the Eastern Caribbean Golf Association Championship in Anguilla with a three-round total of seven-over-par 223.

West built his lead with a two-under-par 70 in the second round after opening with a 75, then carded a 78 in the final round to secure the title.

His closing round included a triple bogey and one birdie, but he finished seven over par for the 54 holes.

“I played pretty well in the two rounds,” West told Bernews.

“I had a bunch of three putts in the first round and hit the ball well.

“In the second round it was quite windy, I was up by a few shots and just took the driver out of the bag and was trying to put the ball down the fairway and onto the middle of the green.”

West said he plans to compete more regularly in the Caribbean to improve his World Amateur Golf Ranking points and pursue opportunities to play in major amateur events.

“I’m looking to play a lot more in the Caribbean region to get more world amateur golf ranking points – I’d like to play in the British Amateurs or US Amateurs,” he said.

“I’m looking to play one tournament each month. I have the Panama National Amateur Championships in a couple of weeks and a few more scheduled after that.”
