Karting driver Scott Barnes will return to international competition at ROK Vegas at the Rio Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas this weekend.

More than 300 entries from around the world are expected across 12 categories at the ninth edition of the event.

ROK Vegas is the season-ending event for ROK Cup USA, with Barnes earning an invitation after winning his class at the ROK Cup Florida Winter Tour earlier this year.

Barnes, who races for Maranello Karts, will compete in the Shifter Masters class.

The competition format includes three heat races, a pre-final and a final.

Barnes has not raced in the United States since March and competed once in Bermuda a couple of weeks ago.

His return to the track follows a difficult period in which his charter boat, Hakuna Matata, was destroyed by fire last month.

“Life has thrown some curves at me this year,” Barnes told Bernews.

“I’m looking to win. Half the field are fast and can definitely win the final.

“It’s a tight track, long barriers, and no room for mistakes.

“Finishing every heat race in the main thing, so you can get a good starting spot in the final.

“I want a podium – the goal is to win this.”
