“Big Brothers Big Sisters of Bermuda [BBBS] celebrated another successful Spooktacular Hot Dog Day in partnership with Gorham’s on Saturday [Oct 31] bringing together families, volunteers, community partners, and supporters for a day filled with delicious food, fun, and community spirit.

A spokesperson said, “The annual fundraising event attracted a fantastic turnout, with BBBS selling out of hot dogs! The event was a true family affair, with BBBS Littles, Bigs, parents, staff, and Board members all rolling up their sleeves to help make the day a success. The Littles played an especially important role, enthusiastically serving hot dogs, drinks, popcorn, and snacks while interacting with members of the community.

“The atmosphere was lively, with DJ LA keeping the energy high throughout the event, while Chef Michiko worked the grill, serving up delicious hot dogs. Adding to the excitement was the popular “Taki Challenge,” which dared attendees to pile spicy Takis chips onto their hot dogs and eat them. Several brave participants successfully completed the challenge, much to the amusement of those watching. Some attendees also embraced the Spooktacular theme by arriving in costume.

“The event was made possible through the generosity of community partners, particularly Gorham’s, the event’s main sponsor and host, and BGA, which generously provided delicious Smithfield hot dogs, along with a variety of tasty snacks, treats, and refreshments for attendees to enjoy. Barritt’s also contributed drinks, adding to the wonderful community support that helped make the day a success.”

BBBS Managing Director Patrina O’Connor-Paynter expressed her gratitude to the organization’s partners and highlighted the special significance of the annual event. “We are incredibly grateful to Gorham’s, BGA, Barritt’s, and everyone who helped make this year’s Spooktacular Hot Dog Day such a success. Having community partners who continue to invest in our organization and our young people means so much to us. What makes this event particularly special is that our Littles look forward to it every single year.

“They are always asking when Hot Dog Day is coming, and when the day arrives, they show up ready and excited to help! It’s wonderful to see them working alongside their Bigs, parents, staff, and Board members, developing confidence, teamwork, and a sense of responsibility while giving back to the community. Events like this remind us that BBBS is more than a mentoring organization; we are a family, supported by a community that truly cares.”

The spokesperson said, “O’Connor-Paynter also thanked everyone who stopped by, purchased food, participated in the activities, or simply showed their support.

“Beyond raising funds, the Spooktacular Hot Dog Day provided an opportunity for young people to develop valuable life skills through hands-on volunteering, while strengthening connections between mentors, families, and the wider community.

“Big Brothers Big Sisters of Bermuda extends heartfelt thanks to Gorham’s, BGA, Barritt’s, Chef Michiko, DJ LA, its dedicated volunteers, and the many members of the public who helped make the event a tremendous success.

“Funds raised from the event will support the organization’s ongoing mentoring programmes and initiatives for Bermuda’s young people.”
