Bermuda: 2nd in Caribbean Equestrian Event

The Bermuda portion of the Caribbean Equestrian Association [CAE] Junior Jumping Competition was held at the National Equestrian Center on Vesey Street this weekend, and Bermuda claimed the second place spot.

The Bermuda team consisted of 14 yr old Jahdayna Samuels, who placed 1st in her category. She has been riding since she was four years old, and rides out of Inwood Stables. Bermuda’s other entry was 14 yr old Tyler Lopes making his second appearance in the CEA. Both equestrians rank amongst the best of Bermuda’s youth riders.

Jamaica won the competition with faults, Bermuda had 12, Cayman Islands had 18 and Barbados finished with 36.

Final Results

  1. Jamaica: Adam Lake and Francesca Chin
  2. Bermuda: Tyler Lopes and Jahdayna Samuels
  3. Cayman: Elsie Boone and Ashley Scaletta
  4. Barbados: Annemeik Mackie and Paige Tryhane

During the competiton, each country hosts three other countries with each country fielding a rider in each age category [14 and under, 16 and under]. Bermuda won the competition in 2004, and the defending champions this year are Jamaica.

The judge for the Bermuda leg was Ralph Alfano from Wellington, Florida, the course was designed by the Vice President of the Bermuda Equestrian Federation Ian Truran, and the event was organized by McKeisha Smith.
