Gospel Artist Thanks God for Success
With his well received debut album selling well and a major concert at the Fairmont Southampton Princess on December 18, Bermudian Gospel sensation Tricray Astwood is thanking God for his newfound success.
Mr. Astwood’s CD “Let Judah Reign” was released last August shortly before he appeared as a supporting act for Grammy Award-winning American Gospel stars BeBe and CeCe Winans at their Bermuda Heritage Worship Centre reunion concert.
The title track of the CD along with Mr. Astwood’s self-penned songs “Moving On” and “All I Need” are receiving regular airplay on Bermuda radio stations.
An early passion for the harmonies of Boyz II Men led Mr. Astwood to begin singing as a six-year-old at the Radnor Road Christian Fellowship and Gospel has been his passion ever since.
A former student of Bermudian opera singer and music teacher Dr. Gary Burgess, Mr. Astwood describes his style as eclectic — citing such influences as the soulful John Legend, the rock-flavoured Maroon 5 and the contemporary Christian sounds of Kirk Franklin.
Mr. Astwood, who has appeared with Dove Award winner LaRue Howard and Jamaican reggae/Gospel artist Marvia Providence, says he hopes his music “ushers listeners into the throne room of God.”
The 23-year-old Bermudian — who earned a Bachelor’s Degree in music industry studies in Florida — was encouraged to pursue a career as a singer/songwriter by Clint Brown, the American Gospel star who is also pastor of the FaithWorld Church Mr. Astwood attended in Orlando.
“Let Judah Rule”, which has sold more than a thousand copies since its release, is available at the Music Box in Hamilton or at Mr. Astwood’s website.
