As part of the “Adopt-A-School” programme Greymane Contracting had adopted Gilbert Institute. The newly renovated kitchen represents the company’s commitment as part of the initiative. The new kitchen had installed new countertops, a new stove, a new refrigerator and new cabinetry. The “Adopt-A-School” initiative was launched last November and involves members of the community agreeing to “adopt” or “sponsor” a school for $10,000 a year to assist in infrastructure upkeep. This is the second completed project as part of the Adopt-A-School programme. The first was the newly paved parking area at Heron Bay Primary School, which was completed after Island Construction adopted the Southampton school.

This is a great initiative. Kudos to Island Construction and Greymane Contracting for leading the way with Heron Bay and Gilbert — two of the smallest primary schools that had been scheduled for the chopping block last year. Thank goodness Dame Jennifer is making changes. Now let’s see the other Ministries cutting the excess staff that are unqualified or undeserving of a public service job, and make some tangible improvements.
