Videos: 2011 Christmas Tree Of Lights Ceremony

November 26, 2011

Hundreds of people turned out last night [Nov.25] at City Hall for the 17th annual Tree of Lights Ceremony, which also saw the Christmas lights in the City turned on, and coincided with the start of late night shopping in Hamilton.”

The lights on the tree symbolize all those lost over the years, and any donations made went towards the Friends of Hospice, the charity supporting Agape House and hospice care in Bermuda. Chairperson of Friends of Hospice Tim Hunter and Deputy Mayor Glen Smith invited a few children to help turn the light switch on.

Crowds gathered in front of City Hall to watch performances by the Menuhin Foundation, singer Joy Barnum, the Bermuda High School for Girls Choir, the Saltus Grammar School Choir, the Bermuda Islands Pipe Band and the Bermuda Regiment band, before Santa made his surprise appearance on top of the roof.

Santa waved to the crowds from the top of City Hall, and said he just had to park his reindeer before coming downstairs. He soon walked through City Hall’s main entrance, and was greeted by Hamilton Town Crier Ed Christopher, with dozens of excited children rushing him soon after. Santa mingled with the crowds before being escorted away in a fire truck.
