Photos/Videos: Carifta Swimming Team Returns

[Updated with videos] The Bermuda swimming team — and their seven medals — returned to the island this evening [Apr 4], following their successful competition at the 2013 Carifta Swimming Championships in Jamaica.

Proud family and friends holdings signs, flowers and balloons cheered as the young athletes made their way out of the airport. The swimmers were greeted by Community Minister Wayne Scott who congratulated them on their success.

Bermuda’s Madelyn Moore and Jesse Washington set a number of Bermuda age group records as they combined to win a total of seven medals; 3 gold, 2 silver and 2 bronze.

Madelyn Moore, 12, won a gold in the 50m freestyle,  a bronze medal in the 100m freestyle, claimed a silver in the 100m backstroke and also picked up gold medal in the 50m backstroke.

Jesse Washington, 13, won a silver medal in the 50m freestyle, claimed a gold medal in the 100 freestyle, and also won a bronze medal in the 100m butterfly.

The full Bermuda contingent was Vaughn Rowse, Dejan Wellman, Sophie Froud, Philip Hagen, Shannon Botelho, Alex McCallum, Vanessa Esposito, Shannon Hassell, Megan Lau, Josh Irvine, Evan Farrow, Ethan Daley, Alex Pilgrim, Emma Harvey, Ashley Irby, and Alyssa Paynter.

They achieved numerous personal bests throughout the meet, and also made multiple appearances in the finals. The full results of the entire Carifta Swimming Championships can be viewed here [PDF].
