Record Breaking Wells In UK National Headlines

August 26, 2013

Following his record breaking showing this weekend, Bermuda’s Nahki Wells hit the headlines in two UK national Sunday newspapers, being featured in both The Sun and the Sunday Mirror, which have circulations numbering in the millions.

With his two goals in Saturday’s match against Sheffield United, the 23-year-old striker became the first player to score in eight consecutive games for Bradford City, which has been in existence for some 110 years.

Wells came into the game as one of only three Bradford players to have scored for seven consecutive games, and finished the game as the first Bradford player to have scored for eight games in a row.

Featuring photos by Claire Epton, the article below titled “Wells’ love and eight” was featured in The Sun newspaper, and the other article called “Buy our Nahki?” was featured in the Sunday Mirror.

Wells, who was also featured on the BBC’s website, scored five of the goals this season, and three at the end of the last season.

According to the stats, Wells presently tops the League One goal scorer table, with his five goals so far putting him in first place along with Callum Wilson from Coventry City.

Bradford management — who reportedly already rejected a $1.6 million bid for Wells — said, “As far as we are concerned he is not leaving Bradford City. Other clubs have had 12 months to have a look at him and we are not going to sell him a week before the transfer window closes.

“Both chairmen let us put a squad together to get promoted last season and hopefully to get promoted this season. You don’t sell your best players if you want success. It is a no-go area.”

Not yet he isn’t. He is good enough for the Championship, but not the Premiership. Give it a couple of years before he’s there.

  9. Prayerful says:

To concerned Citizen, while I am proud of Nahki, he still has some growing to do before he reaches Premier League status. Let him mature in the game and look at him in a couple of years. He will then be a force to be reckoned with.

    Hope he stays focused.

    • Daniel Gardecki says:

My thoughts exactly. I watch him every week. He’s good, but not that good…..yet!

      • Concerned Citizen says:

I see your point, and you are not alone. I have seen this young man play against 3 Premier teams last season, and he looked more than comfortable. I also see many young British strikers playing for teams like Palace etc, in the top division, and Nahki is tactically, and technically superior. He is ready, and if he had to opportunity to play in front of top, creative midfielders, who can get him to play and keep ball possession, then Nahki will full fill my expectations of him. In fact, while he can learn his trade at Bradford, until such a time that their midfielders feel comfortable on the ball and playing shorter passes, Nahki will have to scrap or create more then he needs too! Btw, I can name at least 20 players in the EPL that Nahki is better then.
