Flora Duffy Wins 97km Challenge In South Africa
Bermudian Flora Duffy joined just under 700 multi-sport athletes at Gordon’s Bay in South Africa last weekend to take part in the 12th annual Totalsports Challenge.
Duffy won the Totalsports Terra Firma Challenge Individual Women’s title in a time of 04:24:32. The 97km event consisted of a 50km road bike, 13km road run, 25km mountain bike and 9km beach run.
“Coming into the event I didn’t know what to expect,” she told Runner’s World.
“I was a little worried at the beginning, but soon started to feel fine even though I had a mechanical on the road bike. I ran great on the road, handled my mountain bike well and survived the beach run.
“The event is fantastic, really well organised. The entire course is gorgeous, picturesque and fun, a unique combination,” added Duffy.

Congratulations Flora!!!!!!!!! You continue to put Bermuda on the map. Outstanding! !!!
Congratulations! Amazing.
Well done Flora!
Keep climbing the ladder Flora. Results in this individual sport is remarkable for those athletes who participate in them. Well done.
Well done Flora, it’s nice to know that you are still running. I remember you running when my daughter was into running. Keep it up your also promoting Bermuda.
WOW! Congratulations!
Sigh!!
At what point will we accept that these events are senseless. Either you are a Top long distance runner, or Top cyclist (mountain bikes don’t count) but these hybrid events are simply gimmicks. That’s all l!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You couldn’t have just said ‘well done’ or something?
Congrats !!!
Well done!
I can imagine doing the first ride but then to add the other races back to back. And win it. That is some serious athleticism.
Flora Duffy wins the tough…y !!!
Congrats…Beach run at the end…brutal.
Proud of you!
