Photos/Videos: Bermuda Thinking Day Service
Hundreds of people including Bermuda Guides, Brownies, Rainbows and Cub Scouts gathered in Hamilton’s Holy Trinity Cathedral today [Feb 16] to hold their annual Thinking Day Service.
After the marching in of the flags, Canon Norman Lynas gave welcoming remarks. Bishop Rev. Robert Kurtz and Ashley Weekes from the 1st Hamilton Guides gave the opening prayers before Island Commissioner Shirlene Darrell addressed the crowd.
The Cathedral Youth Band led the congregation in song throughout the event in between readings from members of the various groups in attendance.
The participants assembled in City Hall car park, marched to the Cathedral, and after the service then marched through Hamilton to the flagpole on Front Street and back to City Hall.
Thinking Day is the day closest to the birthday of Lord Baden-Powell who was the originator of the now worldwide Scouting movement. Guiding started after Lord Baden-Powell’s wife Olave Baden-Powell, initiated a similar movement aimed at girls.
Girlguiding Bermuda is a registered charity and those interesting in learning more about the programs or supporting the charity can contact headquarters at Lady Asser Hut by calling 292-0675 or email girlguides@northrock.bm.
