[Updated] Jenaya Wade-Fray — the first Bermudian basketball player to make an Olympic appearance — has been signed by the Brixton Topcats basketball team, which plays in the Women’s British Basketball League [WBBL].

The club’s announcement said, “Wade-Fray, a 5ft 9 shooting guard has played 38 caps for Great Britain being a key figure in the London 2012 Olympic Games. She spent four years at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga where in her senior year averaged 12.9 PPG & 6.2 RPG.

“Wade-Fray has also had spells in the UK with both Sheffield Hatters [2010/11] and Cardiff Archers [2011/12] so is a very familiar face to UK basketball.”

“Wade-Fray will make her debut today against Manchester Mystics away at 8pm which is a must win for the Topcats to keep their playoff hopes alive.”

Brixton Topcats head coach Steve Vear said, “Jenaya has only had a few practices under her belt but instantly you can see her level of professionalism and high basketball IQ.

“She is a player that leads by example which is really going to help our younger players. I’m excited to have her on board for the rest of the season where she is going to bring a lot to the Topcats.”

Update 5.12pm: Wade-Fray has made her debut, and is now in the court where she has scored 13 points already.

Update 7.19pm: Jenaya Wade-Fray propelled Brixton to a 42-69 defeat of Manchester Mystics, for their first win since November, as she hit 5/9 three-pointers on her way to 19 points.
