Flying Phantom Series To Take Place In Bermuda
Bermuda will be the host of the 2015 Flying Phantom Series, a special event for Flying Phantoms with One Design racing in the Great Sound and long distance races, with boats coming from Europe, USA, Canada, and Bermuda.
The event will take place from November 29 to the December 2.
The One Design races will take place in the Great Sound, with the Flying Phantoms racing against each other on a course specially prepared by Regatta Director David Campbell James.
.
The courses will be laid out to offer a reaching start with a clearing mark in the middle, a leeward gate, a windward gate, and a reaching finish after rounding the final mark. This should ensure fast, exciting and close racing on catamarans that take off in just seven knots of wind and can fly at two and half times the real wind speed.
The Flying Phantom Bermuda event is based on an original idea from Tom Slingsby, Oracle Team USA’s Sailing Team Manager, and Philippe Presti, Oracle Team USA’s coach, who experienced for themselves sailing their Flying Phantom on Bermuda’s Great Sound and found that this environment was the perfect venue to run a Flying Phantom regatta.
Adam Barboza of America’s Cup Bermuda and members of the Royal Bermuda Yacht Club are involved in the organization of this event, which will serve as the grand finale to the 2015 Flying Phantom season.
It’s Mr. Bernews All jokes aside this is great news for the Island and BTA!
According da fella, “the race is not for the swift but for he that can endure.” In this case, I believe it’s more of a combination.
Swift or strong.
Get it right.
