Bermuda Onion Up & Ready To Drop In 2016
[Updated with video] With just a few hours left until the beginning of a new year, the traditional Bermuda Onion has been raised in St George’s and is ready to drop at the stroke of midnight to welcome in 2016.
The New Year’s Eve celebration in the east end is set to kick off at around 8.30pm this evening [Dec 31], with the entertainment to include Samantha Smith, Prestege, Rockfire, DJ Black Lion, fireworks, and of course the Bermuda Onion drop.
The onion drop is a Bermudian twist on the traditional New Year’s countdowns, with New York known for its apple drop, Florida has been known to drop a giant tangerine, while the state of Georgia has dropped a peach.
