“More To Bermuda Than A Triangle And Shorts”
The United Kingdom’s Daily Mail has offered its readers eight “fantastic” reasons to pay a visit to Bermuda, noting the island’s uniqueness among vacation getaways in calling Bermuda “a sweetly seductive travel destination” and saying there is “more to Bermuda than a Triangle and shorts.”
The eight reasons include snorkeling, whalewatching, the Old Railway Trail, island excursions, our proximity to New York, the Learn to Sail programme, cliff diving, and eco adventures.
The story says, “Name an island in the Caribbean that begins with a ‘B’: Barbados or Barbuda… or what about Bermuda?”
Screenshot of the Daily Mail article:
“Bermuda begins with a ‘B’ and it really sounds as if it should be in the Caribbean [British heritage, palm trees, white beaches, warm blue waters] but it’s actually in the Atlantic some 600 miles to the east of North Carolina and offering a holiday experience in many ways quite different to the Caribbean.
“One of the distinctive things about Bermuda is that while other Commonwealth nations were quick to separate themselves from British rule, Bermuda has been happy to stay more closely linked to the UK.
“Prior to its settlement by the British in 1609, Bermuda was unoccupied. The island has the honour of being the oldest and most populous remaining British Overseas Territory.”
Nice ad, they forgot one more B word, Boring.
Get a life.
here’s another commonly used B word..Bollocks!
Well anybody that read more than 3 of your posts would definitely reach that conclusion.
I am delighted that Bermuda is being portrayed in a more accurate and positive light.
How often have you been overseas and asked where are you from and when you say “Bermuda” the response is almost always “Bermuda Triangle”? I object to being primarily associated with a lame “B” rated Hollywood movie!!…..and even “Bermuda Shorts” is no big deal. Bermuda is indeed “So Much More” and our British heritage is a BIG part of that.
We really should be more broadly celebrated and recognized worldwide for pioneering the “Bermuda Rig” – a late 18th/early 19th Century innovative sail design that led on to modern aviation advances.
FYI – Bermuda Sloop Foundation has 3 main missions:
1. Education and character building for our youth.
2. Fostering an understanding of our unique maritime heritage…AND
3. Creating an icon around which the whole community can celebrate.
“Spirit of Bermuda” is this icon and it symbolizes our resilience and innovative resourcefulness.
20 years from now when you are overseas and you say you are from Bermuda, we hope the response is “Oh yeah, that small island that pioneered the “Bermuda Rig”.
Nobody really cares unless they love that kind of stuff. Beach, girls, food, drinks thats what people want for the right price…oh and ENTERTAINMENT!!
