17-Year-Old Judah Burchall Dies After Collision

[Updated] A 17-year-old Sandys male has died tonight [May 21] from injuries sustained in a collision involving the auxiliary cycle he was riding, another motorcycle and a car. The collision occurred on Collectors Hill, Smiths near the junction with Hermitage Road.

Police Media Manager Dwayne Caines said: “At Approximately 10:52pm Saturday 21st May 2016, First responders attended a report of a serious road traffic collision located at the top of Collectors Hill, Smiths Parish involving three vehicles [2 motor bikes & 1 motor car].

“As a result a 17 year old Sandy’s male who was riding an auxiliary cycle was taken taken to the hospital where he later was pronounced dead, no further information will be given until the next of kin has been notified.

“A female rider of the other motorcycle was also taken to the hospital where she is being treated for an arm injury.

“The area has been cordoned off and the relevant officers are processing the scene. Police are appealing for anyone who may have seen this collision to contact police on 295-0011.”

Update May 22, 2.51pm: A police spokesperson said, “The Bermuda Police Service extends condolences to the family and friends of 17 year old Judah Burchall, who was seriously injured in a three vehicle collision at the top of Collectors Hill in Smith’s parish around 10:52pm Saturday May 21st and later, succumbed to his injuries at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital.

“He was riding an auxiliary cycle at the time of the collision. The female rider of the motorcycle involved was also taken to the hospital and at last check was being treated for an arm injury. Apparently the driver of the car involved was not injured.

“A Family Liaison Officer has also been assigned to assist the Burchall family at this difficult time.

“The investigation regarding the fifth fatal collision of the year continues and any witnesses or persons that were traveling along Collectors Hill around 10:50pm Saturday should contact the Roads Policing Unit on 295-0011.”
