Digicel Business Sponsor Sailor Ceci Wollman
Digicel Business have broadened their sponsorship of young Bermudian athletes by becoming the official telecoms partner for Ceci Wollmann – who is set to represent Bermuda at the 2016 Olympic Games.
In January, Ms Wollmann became the first Bermudian to qualify for the Rio Olympics after she secured the required time at the Sailing World Cup in Miami. As a result she will be the youngest sailor to represent Bermuda at the Olympic Games in August.
Shane McDonnell, Sales Director of Digicel & BTC with Ceci Wollman:
The Bermuda Olympic Association elite athlete will compete against the world’s best in Rio in the Laser Radial class as she bids to bring a medal home to Bermuda.
Her qualification comes on the back of being voted the 2015 Junior Female Athlete of the Year and being selected for Team BDA at the Red Bull Youth America’s Cup 2017.
“We’ve a long track record of supporting youth sailing in Bermuda and we’ve always been aware of Ceci’s talent from a young age when she competed in the Optimist Class,” said Shane McDonnell, Sales Director at Digicel & BTC.
“Ceci’s commitment to her sport while she completes her studies at Saltus Grammar requires real dedication. It makes her achievements all the more notable. As supporters of young Bermudian talent we’re proud to be able to support Ceci as she represents Bermuda in Rio.”
Ceci Wollman returns home after qualifying for the Olympics earlier this year:
Ms Wollmann added, “After the Pan Am Games I realized I could compete against the world’s best sailors and it’s taken a lot of hard work and sacrifices to reach this point.
“I am so proud to be representing my country at the world’s biggest event I am delighted to partner with Digicel given their track record of involvement with young sports stars.”
Other sporting ambassadors for Digicel Bermuda include two-time Olympic swimmer Roy-Allan Burch, National Squash Champion Micah Franklin, cyclist Dominique Mayho and youth triathlete Tyler Smith.
