Police Confirm Death Of 65-Year-Old Male Visitor
[Updated with video] The police have confirmed that a 65-year-old male visitor from the UK died while snorkeling at Elbow Beach today.
Police Media Manager Dwayne Caines said, “At 4.25pm police attended a report of an incident that took place on Elbow Beach.
“It appears that a 65-year-old man visiting the island was snorkeling in the water when he ran into difficulty and became unconscious.
“He was brought to shore in an unresponsive state, where CPR was administered by individuals in the area until paramedics came.
“He was then rushed to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
“No further information will be given until the next of kin has been notified. An investigation into the circumstances of the man’s death has now commenced.”
Update 7.12pm: A police statement said, “At 4:25pm on Sunday, May 29th first responders attended a report of an incident that took place at Elbow Beach in Paget.
“On police arrival it was ascertained that a 65 year old male visiting from the U.K. was snorkeling when it appears that he ran into difficulty.
“He was seen in the waters by staff of Elbow Beach hotel. They commenced CPR until EMTs arrived.
“The EMTs continued CPR at the scene and during transport to the hospital. However, he was later pronounced dead.
“No further information will be given until the next of kin has been notified. An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the 65 year old visitor’s death is now underway.”
