Smith Wins Ironman Age Group In Puerto Rico
A group of triathletes from Bermuda took part in the Ironman 70.3 Puerto Rico, with Karen Smith making an impressive showing to win her Age Group.
Smith won the Female 45-49 Age Group finishing 138th overall in a time of 5:04.31. She was the first in the Age Group out of the water covering the 1.2 mile swim in a time of 31.15, she dropped to second after the 56 mile bike course clocking a time of 2:43.18 and then she covered the 13.1 mile run course in a time of 1:43.49.
Gerhard Boonstra clocked a time of 5:58.40 on his way to finishing 58th in the Men’s 45 – 49 Age Group Division and 532nd overall, while Thomas Hands finished 69th in the Men’s 50 – 54 Age Group and 784th overall with a time of 6:31.11.
Danielle Morin clocked a time of 6:54.09 to finish 38th in the Female 40 – 44 Age Group and 967th overall and with an overall time of 6:55.00 saw Nancy Stevens finish 21st in the female 50 – 54 Age Group and 973rd overall.
Competing in the Men’s 40 – 44 Age Group, Josh Ball clocked a time of 7:40.37, he finished 176th in the Age Group and 1,178th overall.
The team of Victor Ruberry, Ian Pilgrim and Lara Rogers finished 6th overall as Ruberry emerged from the water 7th in the team event in 32:45 and Ian Pilgrim then blitzed the bike in 2:33:19 to move them into second place with Rogers completing the run in 2:13:34 for an overall time of 5:27:29.
