Video: Winter Olympian Donates To NSC

August 29, 2017

Thanks to the generosity of Bermuda’s Winter Olympian Dr Tucker Murphy, people can now train like a cross country skier.

Dr Murphy, who competed as a cross country skier in the Winter Olympics at Vancouver in 2010 and Sochi four years later, has donated a SkiErg to the National Sports Centre’s gym.

“The equipment is very similar to cross country skiing and works the same muscles used in double poling. As a result, it provides one of the most challenging aerobic upper body workouts I have done,” he said.

“I had some funding from an Olympic Solidarity Scholarship issued through the Bermuda Olympic Association and I felt this would be a good training tool both for myself and the next generation of aspiring athletes, as well as those Bermudians just aiming to get fitter.”

Amy Fox, the NSC’s Aquatics and Fitness Manager, said: “It was a great gesture from Tucker and we are very grateful to him for the donation.

“The machine fits in very well indeed with the equipment we have at the gym and we would encourage people to come and have a look. They will be very pleasantly surprised.”
