Information Sessions On Airbnb Experiences

November 15, 2018

The Bermuda Tourism Authority and Airbnb will host information sessions to prepare the community for the introduction of Airbnb Experiences, with the free sessions set take place on November 28 and 29.

“Airbnb Experiences is scheduled to launch in Bermuda next spring,” the BTA said. “Bermuda will be the fourth Experiences destination in the Atlantic/Caribbean region, following successful rollouts in Cuba, Puerto Rico and Jamaica.

“Experiences are hosted by passionate locals who love sharing their community and expertise with guests by planning and leading experiences. Each Experience is featured on the Airbnb website and marketed to millions of Airbnb customers through the brand’s website, social media and email channels.”

“Hosting an Airbnb Experience is an opportunity for a Bermudian to highlight his or her insider knowledge of the island and reach a worldwide audience of highly engaged travellers,” said Pat Phillp-Fairn, chief product and experiences development officer at the Bermuda Tourism Authority.

“This is another avenue for local entrepreneurs to present their distinct offerings, while still working with other distribution partners. It also presents an opportunity for the destination as a whole because Airbnb Experiences helps to set us apart from our competitors.”

“We are very excited about the launch of Airbnb Experiences in Bermuda,” said Carlos Munoz, who manages public policy and communications for Airbnb in the Caribbean and Central America. “The rollout of Experiences on the island is only possible because of the productive partnership with the BTA and we look forward to offering guests the heartfelt hospitality of our Bermudian hosts.”

Attendees can select one of two information sessions. Each will last 90 minutes, taking place at the Bermuda Tourism Authority at 22 Church Street in Hamilton:

  • Wednesday, November 28; 5:30pm to 7pm – here
  • Thursday, November 29, 8:30am to 10am – here

Persons interested in attending must RSVP in advance online [links above]. Hosts of Airbnb Experiences are not required to be Airbnb home hosts in order to participate, but there are detailed criteria which will be discussed in the information sessions.

  1. How dare you compare us to other destinations…Bermuda …is another WORLD…dammit…

  2. My Rent says:

Need a limit on these AirBnB’s. Rent for Bermudians is still too high!

    • Kevin Dallas says:

Note that Airbnb Experiences have nothing to do with homes – and they can be hosted by anyone with a passion they’d like to share with visitors

    • Um Um Like says:

Rents were high before AirBnB existed. Bermudians have also been renting their homes and rooms since AirBnB existed, so perhaps we should just stop allowing tourists altogether.

Take a look at the Vacation Rental Bill. There is a clause that disqualifies a home from being rented as a vacation rental if it has been rented to a resident of Bermuda for the last 6 months.

  3. Bruh Man From De 5th Floot says:

As much as this is good for the economy for the sol family or person, it also hurts our local real estate market,

  4. Eve says:

How much is BTA spending to have Airbnb come in and tell Bermuda property owners how to engage with their guests? Bermudians wrote the book on this, now BTA and Airbnb want to come in and tell owners how to do it their way. BTA continues to force their methods on Bermudians and guests at what cost?

    • Blankerchief says:

Continues? What are you even on about?

    • Kevin Dallas says:

In this instance, Airbnb are coming out here to tell Bermudian entrepreneurs how they can use the Airbnb Experiences platform to make $ by sharing things they are passionate about with visitors. You do not need to be a homeowner to host an Experience.

And to answer the specific question: the BTA are not paying any of Airbnb’s expenses.

Nor is anyone compelled to participate; this is an opportunity for those who are interested.

      • Eve says:

OK Kevin, I’ll change my question; what is the cost for BTA to co-host these meeting and entertaining the Airbnb folks?? Airbnb are collecting a fee from owners and use of tax money they collect on behalf of BTA they should be paying the owners to attend the meeting.

    • LaV says:

“Bermudians wrote the book on this”

      LOL, you’re a moron

    • question says:

If you’re a tourism property owner and don’t want to hear what they say because you already think you ‘wrote the book on it’, then don’t bother.

This is aimed at people that want to hear about the latest best practices. Things that will improve their product and, ultimately, make them more money.

It’s not for people who are arrogant, closed-minded, and unwilling to learn anything new. So you wouldn’t get much from it.

  5. Own says:

Save up and buy your own house! Simple.
