IAC Urges Professionals, Public To Attend ACE
The Inter-Agency Committee for Children and Families [IAC] is encouraging more professionals to get involved in the issues related to adverse childhood experiences by committing to attend the upcoming ACEs Conference.
“IAC in collaboration with Family Centre and Citizens Uprooting Racism [CURB] are hosting a 2-Day Conference on Adverse Childhood Experiences [ACEs] scheduled for Thursday, June 13 and Friday, June 14,” a spokesperson said.
Lovette Lovell and Gwendolyn Creary, IAC representatives reminded the public that, “The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention [CDC] have stated ‘Adverse Childhood Experiences [ACEs] is the term used to describe all types of abuse, neglect and other potentially traumatic experiences that occur to people under the age of 18’.
According to IAC, the CDC further states “ACEs have been linked to risky health behaviors, chronic health conditions, low life potential and early death.” They further advise, “With escalating healthcare costs, maintaining optimal health should be everyone’s concern. Attending the conference will increase your understanding about factors that impede wellness.”
