Wells Scores As QPR Advance In Carabao Cup
[Updated with video] Bermuda’s Nahki Wells recently returned to QPR on a season long loan, and he is already making his presence known, scoring for QPR today [Aug 13] as they defeated Bristol City in a dramatic match that ended in a penalty shoot out.
The club’s match report said, “QPR kept up their unbeaten start to the season – winning 5-4 on penalties following a 3-3 draw during normal time in this highly entertaining first round Carabao Cup tie.
“Visitors Bristol City opened the scoring in this goal-laden encounter through Famara Diedhiou in the 13th minute, before Rangers roared back with goals from Nahki Wells [15] and Ilias Chair [26] at the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium.
“Blockbuster attempts from Jack Hunt [41] and Liam Walsh [59] put Lee Johnson’s men back in front.
“Ryan Manning’s late penalty [86] sent the game to spot-kicks, which culminated in Liam Kelly saving from Bailey Wright on the former’s competitive QPR debut to send the R’s into round two.
The club also noted, that Wells “was involved in almost all of Rangers’ attacking play against the Robins in W12.
“He drew his team level at 1-1 with a brilliant strike on 15 minutes and, late on, won the spot-kick that Ryan Manning dispatched to force the tie to a penalty shootout,” their report said.
“Rangers went on to win the shootout 5-4, with Wells making no mistake from the spot, and afterwards he told www.qpr.co.uk that he was thrilled to be back amongst the goals.”
