August 13, 2019

Steve Plater – former British Superbike Champion, Isle of Man TT winner, and multiple North West 200 and Macau Grand Prix winner – is flying in to participate in Bermuda’s biggest Ride-Out and Auto Show, according to organisers.

During his visit to Bermuda, he will take part in the 2019 Scooter Mart Bermuda Charge Charity Ride-Out, which starts and finishes at Clearwater Beach on Sunday 01 September.

Mr. Plater said: “I found out about the event when I bumped in to the Bermuda Charge organisers, at the North West 200 earlier this year. I’m excited to come over and check it out, this will be my first visit to Bermuda – I hear there is a big motorcycle culture over there, I can’t wait to experience it.”

A spokesperson said, “Steve Plater is at the forefront of the motorcycle racing industry, using his expertise across various aspects of the sport.

“Since retiring from competition Steve is now involved with television, media and management, whilst on track he’s a respected test rider, instructor and rider coach. He will be attending alongside North West 200 Event Director, Mervyn Whyte MBE, who visited Bermuda last year ahead of the inaugural Bermuda Charge event.

“The Scooter Mart Bermuda Charge is a celebration of Bermuda’s motoring culture. Scores of custom and classic vehicles are expected at the Auto Show, spurred on by several $500 prizes for the best custom and original vehicles, in categories for both motorcycles and cars. In a generous promotion for 2019, Scooter Mart will also be handing a brand new Yamaha to the lucky winner of a $5 raffle at the end of the day.

“The Auto Show will run from 12pm – 6pm on the grass park at Clearwater Beach, on Sunday 01 September. More than 20 automotive vendors will display their best stock for public test rides, from motorcycles and cars to e-bikes, scooters and ATVs.

“Visitors will find one-day-only deals on motorcycles, tires, wheels, motor insurance, auto detailing, customs and repairs. There will even be Bermis, Twizys and Hummers to try out from the island’s rental car vendors.

“Organisers aim to put on a family friendly display for event visitors, who can also enjoy fun castles, water slides, face-painting, snowballs and a live DJ. Hot food and cold drinks will be available from J&B’s Wood Fired Pizza, Ashley’s Lemonade, Gombey’s Restaurant and Jamaican Grill.

“There is no entry fee for event visitors, however, Ride-Out participants and Best in Show competitors will need to purchase a $29 pack, available at www.bermudacharge.com or www.bdatix.bm.

“$5 from every sale will go to registered charity Greenrock, who will also be present to show support for the many zero-emission vehicles on display at the Auto Show.

“The $29 pack includes participation in the ride, a limited edition Ride-Out T-shirt, wristbands for soft drinks, automatic entry for the Best in Show contests, a Swag bag from sponsors, and a free raffle ticket to win the Scooter Mart Yamaha on the day.

“A Police escort has been requested to help manage the Ride-Out, which will depart Clearwater Beach at 2pm. It will head via North Shore to Hamilton before stopping for a drink break , and then return along South Shore to St George, where riders will break once more on Ordnance Island.

“Finally, the ride will exit via Water Street and head back to Clearwater Beach, where the St George’s Original Dancerettes will perform as they walk ahead of the riders and welcome them in to the family park to continue the festivities.

“A route map and schedule are available to view on the event website, www.bermudacharge.com, as well as further details for the day.”

Event Director David Cahill said: “We aim to deliver a vibrant event for residents and visitors in the East End, a day that Bermuda’s motoring community can look forward to each year.
