World Rugby Classic Second Semi-Final Results
Due to expected inclement weather tomorrow [Nov 9], officials have brought the finals of the World Rugby Classic to today [Nov 8] at the National Sports Center, with a 7.15pm kick off.
Plate Semi-Final: USA Eagles 17 – Lions 12
The USA Eagles picked up their first ever World Rugby Classic victory over the Lions 17 – 12 to advance to the Plate Final.
USA took the lead after dominating the opening 15 minutes when Matt Turner went over and Robbie Shaw kicked the conversion, making it 7 – 0. Shaw then kicked a penalty to extend the USA lead to 10 – 0.
Gareth Bowen got the Lions on the board when he went over for a try and he then kicked the conversion making it 10 – 7. USA went down the field as Miles Craigwell scored a try; when Shaw kicked the conversion, they led 17 – 7.
The Lions scored a try with one minute remaining when Bowen scored again, but they could not get on the board again, allowing USA to advance.
Main Draw Semi-Final: Ireland Legends 7 – South Africa 26
South Africa put on a display of strength as they defeated a spirited Ireland team 26-7. Bian Vermaak gave South Africa the lead when he scored a try, Morgan Newman added a try to double the lead, and Rheinhard Gerber kicked the conversion to make the score 12 – 0.
South Africa extended the lead to 19 – 0 minutes later when Danie Coetzee scored and Gerber kicked the conversion. Wynand Oliver then scored for South Africa and Gerber kicked the conversion to make it 26 – 0. Ireland got on the board when John Kelly went over for a try and Simon Keogh kicked the conversion, making the final score 26 – 7.
