Police Officer Arrested & Suspended From Duty
The police have confirmed that a police officer “was arrested today for a corruption related offence,” and the Police Commissioner said he will be “suspended from his duties during the period of the investigation.”
Commissioner of Police, Stephen Corbishley stated: “Following the report of a serious criminal matter a BPS police officer has been arrested today.
“The officer is being interviewed and will be released on bail. He will also be suspended from his duties during the period of the investigation.
“The BPS has recently invested resources into its Professional Standards Department, which has responsibility to ensure the service acts with integrity and professionalism.
“The result of this investment has identified a number of matters that are now being investigated.
“However, these matters are small in number and do not represent the hard work, ethical standards and professionalism displayed by police officers and staff that work tirelessly each day to keep Bermuda safe.
“In fact, the number of officers suspended, makes up just 1.5% of the service and is not representative of the hard work and honesty of staff.”
“That notwithstanding, it is essential in securing the public’s confidence in our services that we act when serious wrong doing by police employees is identified.”
The police also confirmed that there are “currently seven officers on suspension.”
