A spokesperson said, “Congratulations, compliments and future challenges marked the Comet Class Yacht Racing Association of Bermuda’s annual prize giving at the Mid-Atlantic Boat & Sports Club on Saturday, January 18. The prize giving saw many talented comet class sailors proudly accept cups, medals and certificates for their competitive efforts.
Dale Brangman, Tajahri Rogers, & Mid-Atlantic Boat & Sports Club Commodore, Zaniko Hendrickson:
“Highlights of the evening centred on season winners Maxwell Curtis and Stephan Furbert, who walked away with a resounding victory and many trophies as fleet champions. Also spotlighted were the sailing duo of Dale Brangman and 12-year-old crew member Whitney Institute student Tarjari Rogers.
“Together this team of experience and youth defeated 20 other entries to capture the win in the prestigious 75th annual Edward Cross Long Distance Comet Race. This crew also picked up several wins in the seasonal regattas.
“Tarjari, who has been sailing since the age of eight, was then inducted into the world of international sailing when he once again was called upon to crew for Dale at the 2019 Comet Class Yacht Racing Association International Regatta in Oxford, Maryland in August 2019.
“Skill, diligence and collaboration led this team to an eighth place finish. Fellow Bermudians Rudy Bailey and Corey Bean won the international championship, with Maxwell Curtis and Stephan Furbert finishing in fourth place.”
Maxwell Curtis & Stefan Furbert:
“The sailing regattas are organized by the three member clubs of CCYRA: West End Sailboat Club, Mid-Atlantic Boat & Sports Club and East End Mini Yacht Club. This year the Comet Class Yacht Racing Association is looking forward to what will be the highlight of their upcoming 2020 racing season and that is hosting the Comet Class Yacht Racing Association International Regatta to be held June 16 – 20, 2020 in the Great Sound.
“Already, 15 teams from clubs along the eastern seaboard are registered for the event. Excitement is building in Bermuda and overseas as preparations are put in place for this auspicious sailing event, which will bring people, prestige and prosperity to our shores.
