Gale Warning Issued, Cold Weather Expected
The Bermuda Weather Service [BWS] issued a Gale Warning valid for early Friday morning through Friday evening, with the BWS forecast predicting “gale-force wind and the coldest temperatures we have seen this winter season.”
The BWS forecast states,”Brief high pressure will be responsible for a tranquil day, but showers and wind return by this evening as a robust cold front passes through tonight.
“This will be followed by gale-force wind and the coldest temperatures we have seen this winter season. The gale will ease Friday night with settled and cool conditions on Saturday before the wind increases again on Sunday ahead of the next front due on Monday.”
In forecast discussion, forecaster Gary Hall said, “Gale force wind will be seen area wide through Friday as quite cold temperatures with a tight gradient seen from the surface to the upper levels.
“This is all due to post-frontal activity associated with a deep low ‘N’oreaster’ traversing north and east of the Canadian Maritimes.
“As one would expect during the winter there will be ample stratocumulus cloud cover to blanket the northwest Atlantic, but in this case, given the absolute instability possibly reaching 700hpa/10K’ then cumulus with moderate to heavy showers, perhaps even small hail may accompany the Gale from late Friday afternoon through the night.
“Skies will likely be fair to begin on Friday, but as the temperature profile cools, the chances for thicker cloud and showers increase by nightfall.”
