Tucker Murphy Finishes 88th at Olympics
Bermuda’s sole Olympic entrant Tucker Murphy placed 88th out of out of 96 entrants in the 15 km cross country ski at the 2010 Olympics. Finishing in a time of 42:39, he was approximately 9 minutes behind the gold medalist.
The medal winners of the event were
- Switzerland’s Dario Cologna [33:36]
- Italy’s Pietro Cottrer [34:00]
- Czech Republic’s Lukas Bauer [34:12]
Mr. Murphy combined studying for his doctorate in zoology at Oxford University while training for the Olympics.
Mr. Murphy became the first Bermudian to compete in Olympic skiing, and the third Winter Olympian from the island following Simon Payne and Patrick Singleton.
Like Bermuda, Ethiopia has sent a single entrant to the Winter Games. Robel Teklemariam also competed in this event placing 93rd.
