Internet Access: Bermuda Around 6th in World

April 10, 2010

1105359_internetA recent study released by the Bermuda Department of E-Commerce shows that 89% of local households have internet access.

We used a touch of dramatic licence and plugged that statistic into world internet access statistics provided by the Miniwatts Marketing Group, and came up with an unscientific approximation that Bermuda ranks around 6th in the world for internet access.

The study further showed that 85% of Bermuda households with internet access have a high speed connection, and access to the internet via cable increased from 7% in 2008 to 17% in 2009.

As in 2008, residents spent approximately 11 hours per week using a computer at home in 2009.

The most regularly used computer activities include emailing, using internet search engines, using the internet to look for travel information, researching products or services on the internet, overseas online shopping, searching the internet for information on a hobby or interest, using the internet to get news and online banking.

The top nations of household internet access, with Bermuda interjected into the approximate place:

  1. Falkland Islands 100 %
  2. Iceland 93.2 %
  3. Norway 90.9 %
  4. Greenland 90.3 %
  5. Sweden 89.2 %
  6. Bermuda 89%
  7. Netherlands 85.6 %
  8. Denmark 84.2 %
  9. Finland 83.5 %
