Day #2 ICC Cricket: Cayman Beat Bahamas
After winning the toss Bahamas asked the Cayman Islands to bat on a damp wicket at Southampton Rangers. At the end of the game the Cayman Islands ran out as comfortable winners by 111 runs.
After a flurry of early boundaries the Bahamas stemmed the flow of runs with the spinners proving difficult to score off of. The opener Ramon Sealy played a patient innings for 65 and the middle order was helped with another fifty from Ryan Bovell. Towards the end of the innings some naive tactical play from Bahamas saw the Cayman Islands take their total to 271-9. The biggest share of the late order runs came from the bat of Ronald Ebanks who became the third Cayman batter to reach fifty with some big hitting in the last couple of overs. Albert Peters was the pick of the bowlers with 1-19 from his 10 overs, the spin off Narendra Ekanayake and Dwight Weakley were also worthy of a mention.
The Bahamas began their innings in watchful style as the opening bowlers maintained a good line and length on a wicket that had been spiced up by some lunchtime rain. The Bahamas really needed to at least work the singles to keep the board ticking and to take advantage of the Cayman tactic of keeping their ring fielders deep to prevent boundaries. The required acceleration never really came and wickets began to tumble under the pressure of a mounting run rate. When the spinners came on the run rate remained sluggish with only the odd ball finding the boundary. Again it was spin that was dominant with Kevin Bazil outstanding with figures of 4-26 from his 10 overs, and Alessandro Morris also picking up 3 wickets. In the end the Cayman Islands were the all round better team and were worthy of their victory.
