Front Street Bursting With Activity At 6am
As of 6am today, Front Street was a beehive of activity with people setting up tents and hauling out boxes of liquor, food and more. People who had spent the night on Front Street to reserve their spots could be groggy and half awake. Some we spoke with explained they had been there since yesterday evening, while other families had grouped together and set shifts for people to reserve the spot.
There appears to have been some type of altercation yesterday evening over a spot, which we were told the police intervened with to settle. We were also told the police were highly visible all night, driving up and down Front Street.

Everything and anything could been seen coming out in preparation for the day. Some we spoke with expressed displeasure over the vendors along Front Street, a new thing, saying it has always been the Bermuda way for people to bring their own supplies, and they don’t want to see the day commercialized. A few we spoke with told us they planned to “boycott the food vendors, and hope they don’t come back next year.”

The predicted weather forecast of gale force winds was showing signs of coming to fruition. The winds could be felt at times, and at one point the winds picked up the outdoor umbrella pictured below and it flew directly at our heads. We ducked out of the way, and in good Bermuda fashion, we were then told by some campers that we should have stood firm and got the photo of the umbrella ‘mid flight’. We duly apologized for our ‘wimpiness’ and pledged to not ever do it again…
