Report: May 24th Celebration in London
[Written by Suzy Talbot, a London based writer]
You might not believe this but the temperature in Camden Town, London was apparently hotter than in Bermuda on Sunday.
At a skin sizzling 26%, it felt like we really were on the sunny island instead of celebrating Bermuda Day in the Lockside Lounge in Camden.
Bermudian singer Clinark performed in London, watch him and the crowds below:
The joy of having a rum swizzle, and a proper Dark and Stormy while the sun shone was like being transported back to 2008 when I last visited my family out there. Goslings in a rare thing to find in a pub in England which means a pub claiming to do a Dark and Stormy is always a let down.

But here we were with a rum shack, a bbq with chicken, fish cakes, rice and peas and some dancing not usually seen in an English pub. In fact, the marriage was such a happy one, I think Camden Council should get on the phone to Bermuda and propose some sort of twinning.
Flying the Bermudian flag were Beatnik, who came to England six years ago, and J-Blakke. Beatnik said: “This event is just to expose people to Bermuda. We are hoping to organise a Bermuda festival, although this could be a while away.”
Beatnik has set up a group called Spredluv, which aims to promote up and coming artists, especially Bermudians who perform in pubs throughout London. He added: “What I was trying to achieve back home meant I was a big fish in a small pond. What I can achieve for Bermudians here is so much more exposure.”

This was the second time Bermuda Day had been celebrated in the Lockside Lounge and I think there be a part of England that is forever Bermuda thanks to Spredluv. Do you have any ideas how England could make a Bermuda Day even more authentic?
