Antonio Pierce Joins ESPN As NFL Analyst

Former New York Giants and Washington Redskins linebacker Antonio Pierce, the only Bermudian to play in the Superbowl, is joining ESPN as an NFL analyst and will officially start his role with ESPN this month. He will appear on “NFL Live,” “SportsCenter,” “ESPNNews” and 1050 ESPNNewYork. He also will provide weekly analysis for

“I am definitely going to miss the fans, the locker room talks, and the excitement of putting on a NFL uniform every Sunday, but I am ready to put on a new uniform, and I am extremely excited about contributing my knowledge and experience in this new endeavor to the championship team at ESPN. I thank my family, friends, teammates, and fans for their support throughout my career and as I move in this new and exciting direction,” Mr Pierce said in a statement on ESPN.

Born to an American mother and a Bermudian father [Cleo Burrows of Southampton], he was raised in the United States but always kept a strong contact with the island. His Bermudian grandmother Gwynith Burrows said he would come back to Bermuda every summer and even attended local summer camp [at what is now TN Tatem Middle School].

Mr. Pierce reportedly signed a six year, $26 million dollar contract with the Giants in 2005, and was released by the Giants in February 2010. He played in the 2008 Super Bowl, [which his team won beating the New England Patriots] becoming the first Bermudian to play in the prestigious event. He is the second Bermudian to play for the New York Giants, after Rocky Thompson played for the same team in the 1970’s
