CARICOM Meeting: Burch & Dill Head To Jamaica

caricomMinister of Labour, Home Affairs and Housing Lt. Col. David Burch and Major Kenneth Dill, Head of the Civil Service, will be traveling to Montego Bay, Jamaica for CARICOM’s 31st Regular Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government.

From July 4 – 7, Minister Burch will join leaders in the Caribbean from such countries as Jamaica, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, Bahamas, Trinidad and Tobago and Dominica to discuss regional matters relating to tourism, immigration, trade, the global economic challenges and recovery efforts, progress of the CARICOM Single Market and Economy and issues emanating from the recent G-20 Summit held in Canada. Also on the meeting agenda will be a timely discussion on the current Gulf of Mexico oil spill and its potential effects on the region, as well as the post earthquake recovery efforts in Haiti.

Today Minister Burch said, “The agenda is one that looks to address a number of common areas of concern for Bermuda and the Caribbean region. Therefore, I am very pleased to be representing Bermuda and the Government, because this is an important forum and there is tremendous value in Bermuda being present and having a voice at the table at meetings of this level.”

The 31st CARICOM Meeting will take place at the Rose Hall Resort and Spa in Jamaica.
