UBP Leader Kim Swan: Cup Match Message

July 27, 2010

Below follows a Cup Match Message from Opposition Leader Kim Swan:

On behalf of my wife Cindy, Parliamentary Colleagues, the Executive and Members of the United Bermuda Party, I extend best wishes to the people of Bermuda for a great 2010 Cup Match.

Cup Match is that time of year that demonstrates how a vision birthed during difficult and uncertain times, but formed in the spirit of love, can mushroom into something great.

The origins of Cup Match are worth stating because a game developed to commemorate the emancipation of slaves in our country has become the most universally celebrated holiday on the Bermuda calendar.

The 2010 Cup Match is significant in that our country needs to find ways to come together and heel the rift that divide us socially.

Cup Match has always celebrated family and the rival between our Somerset and St. George’s communities were always enriched by the annual classic.

Let us build on the spirit and make this Cup Match one to remember based on competitiveness and sportsmanship.

Let us responsibly celebrate this Cup Match be free from harm and may it be filled with love, happiness and joy.
