Bermuda Medalists To Receive $7,500
Some years ago the Department of Youth, Sport and Recreation set up an Outstanding Athletic Performance Incentive Programme, which is intended to provide cash inducements to Bermuda’s elite athletes who achieve the required standards to compete in the Olympic Games, Pan American Games, Commonwealth Games and Central American and Caribbean Games and who perform at their level best in any of these competitions such that a medal performance is achieved.
In the very near future the Department of Youth and Sport will be presenting cheques totaling $7,000.00 to five athletes for their performances at the recently concluded Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Games in Puerto Rico.
- On July 26th Tyrone Smith won the Gold Medal in the Men’s Long Jump, for his feat Mr Smith will receive a cheque for $2,500.00.
- Flora Duffy finished the Women’s Olympic Distance Triathlon on July 24th in second place, winning a Silver Medal to earn $1,500.00.
- On July 19th Damien Matthews won a Bronze Medal in Men’s Singles Bowling, Mr Matthews will receive $1,000.00.
- Ross Roberts will receive $1,000.00 for his Bronze Medal performance in the Men’s 50m Rifle Prone Shooting competition on July 20th.
- Tyler.Butterfield will also pocket $1,000.00 for his Bronze Medal Podium finish in the Men’s Olympic Distance Triathlon held on July 24th.
