The Bermuda Olympic Association [BOA] today announced that BOA President Judy Simons was re-elected to the Executive Board of the Central American and Caribbean Sports Organization [CACSO] at the CACSO General Assembly meeting held in Barranquilla, Colombia on November 14th.

Elected representatives will hold office until 2019. Mrs. Simons was first elected to the CACSO Board in 2011. She is currently the only woman serving on the Board.

Composition of the newly elected CACSO Board is as follows:

  • President Mr. Hector Cardona
  • 1st VP Mr. Steve Stoute
  • 2nd VP Mr. Carlos Padilla [MEX]
  • 3rd VP Mr. Baltazar Medina [COL]
  • Treasurer Mr. Camilo Mamado [PAN]
  • 1st Vocal Mrs. Judy Simons [BER]
  • 2nd Vocal Mr. Salvador Jiminez [HON]
  • 3rd Vocal Mr. Ruperto Herrera [CUB]
  • 4th Vocal Mr. Christopher Samuda [JAM]
  • 5th Vocal Mr. Hans Larsen [HAI]
  • Secretary Mr. Eduardo Alvarez [VEN]

CACSO is the regional sports federation which oversees the Central American and Caribbean Games [CAC Games], the oldest continuing regional games in the world. CASCO is celebrating its 90th Anniversary in 2015.

The CAC Games are held every four years and typically host competitors from countries in Central America, the Caribbean, Mexico, Bermuda and the South American countries of Surinam, Guyana, Colombia and Venezuela. 31 nations competed in the 2014 CAC Games in Veracruz, Mexico.

The CAC Games are considered the starting point of international competition for athletes from the region who are seeking to represent their countries at the Olympic level. They are designed to provide a step between the sub-CAC-region Games and the Pan American Games.

Mrs. Simons said, “I am honoured to have, once again, been elected to the CACSO Board, where I will have the opportunity, on behalf of the BOA, to continue to assist with the development and growth of the CAC Games.

“Bermudian athletes have competed in every edition of the CAC Games since 1974, and the Games are among the most important international competitions available to young people who are striving to represent Bermuda at the elite level.

“I am pleased to be a part of this fine organisation, and I look forward to working with my fellow Board members as CACSO prepares for the 2018 Games in Colombia.”
