Peter Leitner Arts Scholarship Awards
On August 9th the Peter Leitner Arts Scholarship awards took place at Splendido at Horizons. The scholarship is named after Peter Leitner, a Hungarian Jew who fled his homeland at the age of 19 during the quelling of the Hungarian Uprising in 1956. He found refuge in Canada and England before coming to Bermuda as a trained architect in 1966, where he met his future wide Margaret the same year. The Leitners commitment to Bermuda is said to be complete in every way; from 1966 until their deaths in 1998 and 2000, they never considered any other place their home.
The scholarship pool is in the region of $30,000 per annum to be distributed to several candidates who are studying the arts.
