BSoA Offers $5,000 Bursary For Local Students

The Bermuda Society of Arts [BSoA] has been providing an annual Bursary Award for the past 10 years to assist a Bermudian student who is in their second year, completing a post-secondary education in fine arts and/or design, with the 2015 award to provide financial support in the amount of $5,000.

The society is calling on applicants to apply for this years annual award.

According to the BSoA, applicants must be over the age of 17 years, be Bermudian, be enrolled in an undergraduate or post-graduate course in Fine Art and/or Design, have achieved an overall academic standing of “B” or above in their present programme of study, possess a strong character and show demonstrated ambition, and must have demonstrated involvement in local fine art exhibitions/activities.

The Bursary Award’s document requirements include the completed and signed application form, proof of Bermudian status, photographic identification, evidence of acceptance from an approved university or institution of higher learning with a copy of the syllabus of the course being taken, statement indicating summary of expenses and details of any other award sought or offered, applicant’s hand written submission stating career ambitions, and involvement in local fine art exhibitions/activities and why he/she should receive the award.

Also required is a portfolio of the applicant’s artwork [6-12 items = artwork may be submitted digitally, on CD, by email, or on personal website, and a letter of reference from someone qualified to assess the applicant’s ability and performance in the arts.
