Hamilton: Lights Off, Restrooms & Parks to Close

The City of Hamilton today [Sept 16] issued a release saying that due to the expected approach of Hurricane Igor this weekend they will be taking various measures including closing the road trench, turning off traffic lights, and closing all City parks & public restrooms.

Their full statement follows below:

Hamilton, Bermuda – September 16, 2010 — The City of Hamilton today stated that with the approach of Hurricane Igor over the weekend, the trench on Reid Street (between King and Court Streets) will be closed and Spurling’s Hill will be open to motorists from Friday evening.

The last garbage collection in Hamilton will take place on Saturday at 12noon. For public safety no garbage should be put out after 11am on Saturday.

All traffic lights will be turned off in the city on Saturday evening.

All City parks will be closed from Friday evening and public rest rooms will be closed at midday on Saturday.

The Four Seasons Family Fun Festival, scheduled for Sunday afternoon has been cancelled.

Chief Operating Officer and Secretary for the City of Hamilton, Mr. Edward Benevides said, “We are putting measures in place around the City to ensure the safety of the public and our staff. We ask retailers to comply with not putting out garbage after 11am on Saturday. This will ensure there is no garbage flying around during the hurricane.”
