New Tropical Storm Brewing In Atlantic

The US National Hurricane Center is tracking a new tropical storm brewing in the Atlantic. Tropical Storm Igor is presently extremely far away from Bermuda, churning in the area of the Cape Verde Islands. The graph below, courtesy of the NHC, shows Igor heading in the direction of North America, however the weather system is not forecast to travel anywhere near Bermuda’s region anytime soon.

The U.S. National Hurricane Center said Igor, the ninth named storm of the 2010 Atlantic huurricane season, was caryying top sustained winds near 40 miles [65 km] per hour and moving slowly west at eight miles [13 km] per hour. It poses no immediate threat to land.

Bermuda has so far this year been spared any damaging effects from storms, with Tropical Storms Colin and Fiona, as well as Hurricane Danielle, all fizzling out before reaching Bermuda. The 2010 Atlantic hurricane season started on June 1 and will end on November 30.
