Telemaque: Acting Head of the Civil Service

Upon the retirement of present Head of the Civil Service Major Kenneth Dill later this month, Cabinet Secretary Major Marc Telemaque will assume the role of Acting Head of the Civil Service. The appointment was made by the Governor on the advice of the Premier and informal consultation with the Chairman of the Public Service Commission, with the statement from Government House saying a “substantive appointment is expected before the end of 2010.”

Major Telemaque became the youngest person in Government history to be appointed to the Cabinet Secretary post, when appointed in 2006 at age 36. Four years earlier he had become the youngest permanent secretary in history, after being selected permanent secretary of the Ministry of Transport at age 32.

Mr. Telemaque was educated at locally at Paget Primary School and Berkeley Institute, before going overseas to obtain his law degree at the University of Buckingham in England. He returned to the island and started his own law firm, Telemaque and Associates. He also served in the Bermuda Regiment, rising to the rank of Major and serving as the Governor’s Aide-de-Camp [ADC] for two years.

Initially appointed in December 2006, Major Dill will retire from the public service with effect from 21st September 2010, as he has reached the mandatory retirement age of 65.
