Causeway To Close at 7pm Tonight

[Updated] Government has confirmed that the Causeway will close at 7pm tonight [Oct 29] due to the approach of Tropical Storm Shary. They say that “it is anticipated that the Causeway will reopen around 11.00 p.m., once the 50 knot winds have eased.”

7:50pm: At this time officials are allowing one way traffic through, with Police on scene to monitor.

8:30pm: Causeway now officially re-opened

The statement follows below:

Late this afternoon, the Bermuda Weather Service (BWS) updated on developments related to Tropical Storm Shary.

And based on the latest forecasts, it’s anticipated that the Island will experience increased winds of 50 knots associated with TS Shary.

As such and in the interest of public safety a determination has been made to close the Causeway Bridge to all vehicular traffic as of 7.00 p.m.

It is anticipated that the Causeway will reopen around 11.00 p.m., once the 50 knot winds have eased.

As a reminder, Tropical Storm Shary will make a direct hit on the Island around 9.00 p.m. as a weak tropical storm.

Winds are expected to be strongest from the eastern quadrant. The Island can also expect to see periods of heavy rainfall tonight.

Update 5:43pm: Due to the Causeway we have some football cancellations – Corona League match involving St David’s and the Premier division match involving St David’s have both been postponed for tonight.
