Commonwealth Athletes, Premier & Minister
Premier Dr Ewart Brown, along with Sports Minister Glenn Blakeney met up with the top local athletes who are presently competing in the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi, India. The Premier and Minister Blakeney are attending the Commonwealth Games after participating in the signing ceremony of the Tax Information Exchange Agreement (TIEA) with the Government of India.
Bermuda athletes have represented the island proudly, with long jumper Tyrone Smith making it to the finals, swimmer Roy Allan Burch making it to the semi finals, sprinter Tre Houston setting a new personal best time of 10.45, and swimmer Kiera.Aitken making it through to the semi finals.
Jacklyn Lambert recorded the first win for Bermuda when she defeated Uganda’s Jalia Nanfuka on the tennis court and local sharpshooter Nelson Simons achieved a very impressive distinction – being the oldest athlete in the Games at age 78.
